Acetate
Care:
- Cool bath: Acetate does not tolerate hot water. Wash it only at a low temperature (maximum 30°C) on a very delicate fabric program.
- Use only mild detergents. Avoid bleaches and strong stain removers, which can permanently weaken or discolor the delicate lining fibers.
- Do not wring: After washing, do not wring the garment – acetate loses strength when wet. Gently press out excess water with a dry towel.
Sunday Tip: If the lining loses its shine, add a tablespoon of vinegar to the final rinse – this is an old Sunday method to restore its silky smoothness.
Drying and ironing:
- Away from heaters: Dry clothes naturally, preferably on a hanger, away from direct heat sources and sunlight, which can make acetate brittle.
- Never use a tumble dryer – this is the surest way to irreversibly melt the fibers.
- Iron only on the reverse side, setting the iron to the lowest possible temperature (often labeled as “silk/acetate”). It is best to do this when the fabric is still slightly damp.
Remember – acetate is sensitive to alcohol and acids, so try to keep perfumes or hair sprays from coming into direct contact with the lining. Treated gently, it will be the perfect finish for your favorite designs for years to come!
